Tudor Village 1995

Synthetic polymer paint on canvas, 152.5 x 122

signed, dated and titled (verso: ‘Howard Arkley 95 / Tudor Village’)

Private collection, Melbourne

This variant of Arkley’s Tudor theme, first developed in 1986, coolly delineates the single half-timbered house and its surroundings. The simplified composition and monochrome treatment reflect the artist’s reworking of the subject in his black and white exhibitions at Bellas and Tolarno in 1994-95.

The size indicated above is as noted by Melbourne dealer Charles Nodrum, in a valuation produced in 2004 (copy forwarded by owner).

Thanks to the owner and Sarah Ritson for providing photographs and additional details, following a recent cleaning [new entry, June 2025].
