Information received in 2023 clarified the history of this work prior to its 2007 auction, indicating that it previously belonged to the same collection as several other late Arkleys, including the related work on paper Tulips – Still Life 1997 [W/P].

The Ericsson painting Still Life Tulips (1996) is a very similar variant.
