This canvas, documented by a transparency found in the artist’s archive at his death (including title and date), appeared in the Arkley exhibition at Gould Galleries early in 2000. For confirmation of the work’s history prior to 2000, I am grateful to information provided by Geoffrey Smith (Dec.2022).

It is also among the works documented as at Metro 5, Melbourne, at the time of the Arkley exhibition there in Feb.2002, although it is not listed in the exhibition check-list: photos taken at the Metro 5 archive by Paul Auckett, forwarded to Arkley Works, 2026.

The composition is close to that used for Suburban Interior (1995) [W/P], developed in turn from elements of the ‘Traditional Living Room’ page of Gold’s Instant Decorator.
